Trauma Services Fish Tank

The folks at Trauma Services are very pleased with the quality of the acrylic aquarium from Titan Aquatics and the reef exhibit from the artisans at RocknReef Ink.

Regional Bank Adds a Tranquil Tank

Picture
Aquarium Dimensions: Custom
Gallons: 475
The aquarium was delivered to the site on an open flatbed truck. We moved the aquarium into place by forklift, through the double doors at the front of the building and delivered to the display area in the main lobby.

The aquarium was placed on a superstructure built from 2 inch tubular steel.

Once the aquarium and life support system were in place the millworkers finished the surrounding woodwork in a matching mahogany.

The aquarium was then filled, pressure tested and commissioned for use with a new community  of salt water fish.

14th Floor Aquarium in Cambridge, MA

Picture
Aquarium Dimensions: Custom
Gallons: 500
This 500 gallon acrylic aquarium that we installed at a Cambridge technology company came with many engineering installation challenges.

The aquarium exhibit needed to be located on the customers 14th floor with no means for delivery by conventional methods.

We removed the 14th floor window from its casement and delivered the aquarium up to the 14th floor opening via crane service.

Once the aquarium was in place it served duel purposes. One side of the aquarium display was viewed from the reception area, while the other side of the aquarium was viewed from seating in the employee lounge.

Custom Home Glass Aquarium

Aquarium Dimensions: 96″ long x 24″ wide x 30″ high
Gallons: 300
Because Glass is substantially more heavy than Acrylic and the customer has a well manicured lawn and did not want any track marks across the lawn we delivered the aquarium to the front door by boom/crane.

The aquarium was placed on a superstructure of 2 inch tubular steel and the aquarium was located over a bearing wall with additional support columns in the basement.

The delivery and installation took the Aqua Vision team nine hours Before the aquarium was commissioned for use.

OCEANSIDE DINNER, WITHOUT THE SAND

Picture
Aquarium Dimensions: 120″ long x 36″ wide x 48″ high
Gallons: 1,000
Diners at the Inn at Bay Pointe Restaurant in Quincy, MA can enjoy more than the beautiful waterfront views with the addition of this beautiful 1,000 gallon custom bull-nosed acrylic aquarium, which was designed and fabricated by Titan Aquatics, in the main dining room. There are two other aquariums in the dining room and the new aquarium visually extends the underwater theme across the rest of the dining room. The aquarium is wrapped in custom woodwork so it blends into the rest of the dining room.

This large aquarium, which weighs in around 8,000 pounds, required some structural engineering of the subfloor prior to installation in order to support the additional weight of the tank. The photos taken during the week long installation show the many different steps involved in making one of these aquariums look like they’ve always been there.

OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW FIBERGLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC CUSTOM AQUARIUM

Aquarium Dimensions: 162″ long x 56″ wide x 60″ high Custom S-Curve Aquarium
Gallons: 1,200

The main lobby to the Children’s Hospital Boston Campus has been the home to a pair of 500 gallon saltwater glass aquariums for over 15 years. The two aquariums have gone through many changes over the years as they were originally installed as freshwater aquariums, then were given an interior decorative facelift, and a few years after were switched over to saltwater in an effort to make them more interesting to the visitors as they passed through the lobby. By the time the hospital was starting to think about renovating the entire lobby, they were considering removing the aquariums altogether.

In January 2013, Children’s Hospital ultimately decided they wanted the aquarium to remain in the lobby, and the architectural firm in charge of the project proposed creating an entirely new aquarium system to blend into the new lobby design. This new aquarium posed a multitude of design challenges, from the size and shape of the aquarium, to the remote Life Support System Room in the basement.

Living Color Aquariums, the fabricator of the aquarium and the custom synthetic reef, partnered with us to design, fabricate and install the entire system. This aquarium represents many firsts for Aqua Vision Tech – it is the first fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) aquarium that we have installed, it is the largest aquarium system we maintain, and it is the first aquarium with an entire room strictly dedicated to Life Support Equipment which is located 14 vertical feet down, and 60 horizontal feet away from the display aquarium. Needless to say, this project was challenging from design all the way through installation!

The children who are patients at the Children’s Hospital even had a hand in helping design the custom synthetic reef system. They were all asked to submit ideas for what the interior of the tank should look like. The Art department with in the hospital then assembled all of these ideas, and generated a list of items – some are from the children's ideas, some are iconic symbols of the Boston area, all are artistically “hidden” in the reef, providing some entertainment other than just watching the fish.

The week long installation of the aquarium started in the overnight hours when the hospital was at its quietest time, although since the aquarium is positioned so close to the Emergency Room entrance, it never truly is quiet. Moving the aquarium into the building required two forklifts to remove it from the truck and transfer it onto hydraulic moving tables. Once the aquarium was in place, it still took several days to install the Life Support Equipment, hook up all the plumbing and electrical connections, pressure test everything, and finally fill the aquarium with water.

All in all, the end result of the project is stunning, and we are very happy that Children’s Hospital Boston elected to keep the aquarium system in the design of their new lobby.

BUILD IT BIGGER! CUSTOM BEDROOM AQUARIUM

Picture
Aquarium Dimensions: 96″ long x 23″ wide x 39″ high
Gallons: 250

A residential client had an existing aquarium in their master bedroom, and when they decided to replace it they wanted something BIGGER and with a custom shape to fit into a wall space so it could be viewed from the living room two stories below. Titan Aquatic Exhibits LLC fabricated this beautiful aquarium to the exact specifications we needed. Building bigger brought along an unexpected set of challenges when it came to installation day, since the new aquarium wasn’t going to make it up two flights of narrow switchback stairs. Thankfully it would fit through a nearby window, now the challenge was to get it up to that third floor window from the driveway below. Our partners at Titan provided the boom truck to do the heavy lifting.
